The advent of new technology such as cyber and artificial intelligence has leveled the playing field for non-state and state actors alike. As countries become increasingly dependent on IT infrastructure, highly empowered individuals as well as malicious states now pose national security threats to the proper functioning of critical IT infrastructure. Many countries see the creation of their military cyber command to address the threats emanating from cyber space.

The diversity and evolving nature of security threats continue to drive the complexity of modern military operations. This paper aims to provide insights into one of the foundational pillars of network centric warfare – secure communications.
